On average, referees earn around $44,860 per year in the U.S.. Referees have the responsibility to oversee the rules, penalties and fair play of a game or match. Referees can choose to specialise in a particular sport and may even work on international competitions.
How to earn more as a Referee
To become a referee, you will need to attend a refereeing course to gain your qualifications. You can opt for a short afternoon course or a more comprehensive certificate course. You can also gain experience by refereeing in lower league matches. To earn more as a referee, you can become a qualified assessor, providing feedback to other referees or even become a referee coach, training up and coming referees. You might even opt to become a FIFA referee, officiating in matches at the highest level.
